We wanted to quickly do a write-up on how to build your own cluster! This is a great option if you have a vehicle that isn’t covered by some of our vendors who provide our clusters.
A dremel is likely the best tool you’ll find for this project, beyond a basic screwdriver. Having a cutting attachment is helpful as well.
First, you’ll want to source a cluster. You can use your own, but they’re often available for less than $100 for most vehicles on Ebay or other used parts sites.
Disassemble the cluster and remove all the gauges and internals.
For this cluster, the front bezel detaches from the rest of the cluster. We will want to remove the inside portion of this so it forms just a clean outside edge, as shown below.
Once that’s done, you’ll have to evaluate how the screen fits into the white backing portion of the cluster. We had to do a lot of cutting here, which is pretty typical, to cut out a portion so that the screen can be recessed into the cluster.
After that, you can use one of our pre-cut ABS panels, that already has the screen and bolt holes cut out, and cut this to shape to fit into the cluster.
Then you can test fit the screen and power it on! All in all this is an hour or two of labor, just take your time, measure twice and cut once, and you’ll be on your way!
